ABSTRACT
The significant therapeutic problems of coronary heart disease and the current controversy involving the value of nitrate compounds therein has prompted an evaluation of a long-acting form of pentaerythritol tetranitrate. Eighty-four per cent of 56 patients with angina were improved with this type of therapy. Additional benefits in the clinical status of the patients were also noted. These included their sense of well being, energy and exercise tolerance. A small number of patients showed a striking remission of cardiac arrhythmias, which seemed directly related to the nitrate therapy.
