ABSTRACT
The methodology of the prothrombin assay methods commonly in use is discussed. The Quick method is simple but lacks accuracy and precision. The Owren P and P method is accurate and precise but too complicated to be widely accepted in the clinical laboratory. Owren's thrombotest is greatly simplified but it possesses certain inherent technical disadvantages. Additional modifications of the Owren P and P method are described which simplify the procedure without sacrificing accuracy and precision.
