The standard treatment of chronic venous hypertension and venous ulceration consists of elevation and compression bandaging in nurse-led community clinics. Since the 1930s, surgeons have been developing various techniques to alleviate chronic venous hypertension. These can be broadly divided...

An experimental study on 12 healthy individuals was conducted over a period of six months, using the transoxode probe to assess cutaneous blood flow via measurements of transcutaneous oxygen tension (Tcp02) and relative heat power input (R.H.P.). The possible clinical use of the probe in...

Introduction: The hemodynamic effects of carotid artery patching are not well known. Our objective was to develop a fluid-solid finite element model of the endarterectomized and patched carotid artery. Methods: Hyperelastic materials parameters were determined from studies of 8 cadaveric...

There are two mathematical models of elastic walls of healthy and atherosclerotic blood vessels developed and studied. The models are included in a numerical model of global blood circulation via recovery of the vessel wall state equation. The joint model allows us to study the impact of...

Aim: To investigate a potential difference in ocular vascular reactivity during carbogen breathing in optic nerve head, choroid, and retina between healthy smokers and non-smokers. Methods: 25 (13 smokers and 12 non-smokers) healthy male volunteers participated in this observer masked, two...

Prior observations showed that the consequences of venous hypertension depend not only on the magnitude of the venous pressure but also on the efficiency of compensatory mechanisms that protect against the effects of excessive pressures on the microcirculation.
