The article reports that upholstery and cabinet group Scan Thor has launched a Design for Commerce Award, supported by the periodical "Cabinet Maker," to encourage the furniture designers of the future. Second and third year students from Nottingham Trent University were briefed to create an upholstery design that combines seating and sleeping functions. If successful the hope is to expand the award to other universities in future years. Not only will work for the award contribute towards the student's degree, the two designers judged the best will have the opportunity to visit Scan Thor's Polish manufacturing facility, assist in producing the prototype and present it to a key multiple retail client for possible launch into store for the autumn sale period.
