ABSTRACT
This article presents news briefs related to engineering industry. Researchers at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in the U.S. plan to use cosmic ray particles to detect smuggled nuclear material. Being heavily charged, they are easy to detect and can penetrate heavy metal, rock and with an average energy of three billion electron volts, up to 1.8m of lead. Boeing Co. has unveiled its latest aircraft, the 777-200LR, which will be capable of flying almost 11,000 miles non-stop, linking cities such as London and Sydney.
