ABSTRACT
This article reports that engineers at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta have won a grant from DARPA to develop their remote-controlled helicopter for combat environments. The grant will fund two further projects. The first of these, Renegade, will involve the team testing part of the autopilot technology on a larger helicopter, while the second will see GTMax as part of a larger team of unmanned vehicles performing surveillance, reconnaissance and target acquisition missions. Boeing Co. and Honeywell Inc. are also involved in the project.
