Trio of walking robots are lovely movers

This article reports that research teams from MIT, Cornell and Delft University in the Netherlands have developed walking robots, which could change the way humanoid robots are designed and controlled. It is extremely efficient, consuming an amount of energy per unit weight and distance comparable to a human walker. During the forward swing of each leg a small motor stretches a spring, which is finally released to provide the push. The Delft robot uses a pneumatic push at the hip, while the MIT Toddler uses electric motors to directly move the ankle.
