ABSTRACT
This article reports that Birmingham, England-based giant Wragge & Co. has scooped an instruction to advise the Ministry of Defence (MoD) of Great Britain on the £3bn production of two new aircraft carriers. The work will net the firm several millions of pounds in fees over its expected five-year duration. It is understood that Wragges competed for the work against a number of other firms currently on the MoD's legal panel. Wragges' appointment coincides with the launch of the MoD's private finance unit earlier this month. The aim of the unit is to improve efficiency and effectiveness of private finance procurement. The two new aircraft carriers, which will be named HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, will be procured by the MoD using an industry alliance, which currently includes the MoD, BAE Systems and Thales UK.
