ABSTRACT
The article discusses ways for firms to assess growth opportunities, in relation to mergers and acquisitions. Financial buyers should seek a targeted return on the investment and look to maximize undervalued assets, such as real estate. Strategic buyers search for synergies with their business processes, valuable employees, and relationships, or some mixture of these. Buyers should also look for relevant information pertaining to off balance sheet obligations. Experts stress that even if all factors look good, the cultures of the organizations being merged or acquired must be compatible.
