The article presents information on several developments affecting pharmacists in the state of Florida. The most recent is the governor's proposal for Medicaid reform, which worries some pharmacists who own small stores. More than 2 million Floridians are enrolled in Medicaid, and the public health program tops the list for fiscal reform in 2005. Under the new law, pharmacists are required to include the name of the prescriber on the label of the prescription container, in order to minimize problems with billing third party payers for prescriptions written by midlevel practitioners. In an ongoing demonstration project called the Quality-Related Events Program, Florida Medicaid pays pharmacists to help improve medication use among the state's beneficiaries through medication therapy management.
