ABSTRACT
The article reports that a group of environmentalists and municipal leaders in Hawaii is pressuring the state to conduct an environmental impact review of plans for high-speed ferry services between the islands. The Kauai County Council, Maui Mayor Alan Arakawa, and several state lawmakers have formally requested a full review. However, Hawaii Superferry chief executive officer John Garibaldi told the newspaper that such a review would kill the project. June 30 is the deadline by which all government approvals must be in place, allowing a $162 million order for two vessels to go through and assuring investors the project has the green light.
