ABSTRACT
A new method of radiation energy introduction into a powder jet for selective laser cladding (SLC) technology is presented, which is based on the unique properties of cone-shaped laser beams. The parameters of the propagation of cone-shaped laser beams in high-density thin powder jets and the heating of material particles in such jets have been calculated. The SLC process using the proposed method is characterized by a tenfold increase in the process efficiency as compared to the known technologies, by increased precision of processing, and by a higher coefficient of powder utilization. © 2005 Pleiades Publishing, Inc.
