ABSTRACT
This article deals with the incentive marketing efforts of MovieFone and American Express Co. in March 1999. Looking to stimulate ticket sales for the entire movie industry, the companies are teaming up to launch the first industry-wide incentive marketing effort for the film industry. Consumers who buy 10 tickets with their American Express card through MovieFone will get an nth free. American Express will spend about $3 million for television spots and print advertisements. MovieFone will be doing in-theater trailers and well as advertising on its Web site and through America Online, which recently agreed to purchase MovieFone.
