The article reports that Las Vegas has lost its high-stakes gamble on a public extension of its monorail line, at least for now. Clark County's Regional Transportation Commission will not receive a $159.7-million Federal Transit Administration (FTA) grant for the proposed 2.25-mile extension. FTA stipulated that the monorail operate for six months without accidents before it would fund an extension, says Todd Walker, spokesman for Las Vegas Monorail Co., which owns and operates the line on the Strip.
