ABSTRACT
This article presents information regarding the family networks of Lucy Marvell. Henry Alured, eldest brother of Lucy Marvell, fathered fourteen children, six of whom grew to maturity. Fellow Yorkshiremen in arms and in public affairs, it is clear that Fairfax and Alured were well acquainted and that Alured was in a position to give his backing, indeed to have performed the introduction, when Marvell became tutor to Fairfax's daughter about 1650. Matthew Alured's association with Marvell was the longest and certainly the most intimate, despite their completely dissimilar careers.
