ABSTRACT
This article reports on an advertising campaign launched by Tricon Global Restaurants as of March 1999 for the motion picture Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace. Tricon will use its exclusive link with Star Wars to stage its biggest battle yet, combining the forces KFC Corp., Taco Bell and Pizza Hut. Tricon launches the first major promotion across all three-chains on May 12, 1999, nine days before the hugely hyped premiere of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. The restaurants will offer instant-win prizes and collect-and-win prizes. Tricon enlisted TBWA/Chiat/Day to handle advertising for the joint, three-chain promotion.
