Illinois casinos: Texas holdouts

Buchthal, Kristina

Crain's Chicago Business;1/31/2005, Vol. 28 Issue 5, p1
The article reports that Illinois casinos are sitting out the Texas Hold' em poker craze. Gambling palaces in Las Vegas and Atlantic City make room for Texas Hold' em tables. With a state-imposed cap of 1,200 gambling positions per boat, Illinois casinos say they can't afford to offer Texas Hold' em, despite the surge of interest in the game. The short supply of poker tables has funneled players to Hollywood Casino in Aurora, the only Chicago-area casino in Illinois to offer poker seven days a week. And Harrah Entertainment Inc.'s East Chicago Casino operates 16 poker tables that offer Texas Hold' em, Omaha and Seven-card Stud. A state-imposed cap on gambling positions leaves Illinois casinos to choose between Texas Hold' em or more profitable slots.
