In order to successfully manage the hospital and to fulfill the ever-rising expectations of the consumer in the present socioeconomic scenario, it is imperative that the healthcare industry brings in certain standards in different areas of work, so that quality healthcare can be provided and evaluated against laid down norms or standards. Quality assurance is essential. It is a systematic as well as intuitive evaluation of the quality of care provided and continually seeks methods of improving it. Care for patients should be of a standard that satisfies both the healthcare professional and the patient. Quality is an arbitrary term. It is formed by one's own personal values, knowledge and experience, and these might not be necessarily in agreement with others. A care team needs to set norms for quality care standards. A Quality Management System is required in hospitals, which will evaluate input process, and the output of each sub-system in the organisation to satisfy the needs of the clientele.
