Fickle WNEW gets poor reception

This article reports that following the office Christmas party at WNEW, station Program Director Frankie Blue took an unscheduled turn on-air. While there's some debate over whether he blurted out an obscenity, he did identify the station as "KTU" — that is, dance music station WKTU, Mr. Blue's previous employer. The episode cost Mr. Blue his job. But he isn't the only one who's confused about "the new Mix 102.7," as WNEW now calls itself. Over the past two years, the station has changed formats about as often as J. Lo switched boyfriends. The Infinity Broadcasting Co. station remains a source of embarrassment for Infinity parent Viacom Inc., which has been focused on getting its lagging radio division into growth mode.
