ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the competition between furniture retailers AHF, Argos PLC, B&Q PLC, DFS Group Ltd., Furniture 123, Lombok, New Heights, ScS Corp., and Vale Furnishings for the Business Excellence award. AHF won praise for its 10 million pound refurbishment and new store program, highlighted by its Rugby branch. Argos's rise to the country's second largest furniture retailer has gone largely unnoticed by most retailers. Repeat winner DFS proved itself undistracted by the protracted take over offer from its founder, managing to keep profit levels well above those of its rivals and setting new standards for itself in-store.
