This article reports that furniture sales at Argos PLC are doing fine after a reasonably quiet past quarter. David Tyler, finance director of parent GUS said sales in the 15 weeks to January 8 were on a par with the chain's overall 1% like for like increase. Internet sales in the run up to Christmas jumped by a third and now account for about 5% of sales. The chain's new catalogue is due to be released tomorrow. Sister chain Homebase Inc. continued to show higher kitchen sales, helping deliver like for like growth of 4%, although half of this was due to a 10% off promotion day.
