This article reports that Ikea AB is to charge 1 pound for parking at its new store in Edmonton, north London when it opens on February 10. The Swedish giant has claimed the move is to promote sustainable transport by encouraging customers to leave their cars at home in favour of using local transport links. It also claims that the move is not-for profit, with 50 paise of every pound going to local public transport. Ikea said the charge is not a pilot for roll-out across the country's 12 other stores. Ikea will operate a shuttle service between the store and Tottenham Hale underground station.
