This article cites a study investigating humoral and cell-mediated immune responses in foetal sheep following vaccination with Bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccines. It has been stated on several occasions that foetal sheep do not produce haemagglutinating antibody when injected with viable BCG. During the present study on the regulation of the immune response to BCC, foetal sheep were injected with BCG and found to produce both a humoral antibody response and a cell-mediated immune response, as evidenced by tuberculin-induced transformation of foetal blood lymphocytes. Antibody was detected in plasma samples from 2 vaccinated foetuses on days 33 and 36 respectively. it was noticed that the first peak of cellular responsiveness occurred 1 to 2 weeks after vaccination and was followed by a greater response 2 weeks later.
