ABSTRACT
The article presents some financial news from the Southwestern states of the U.S. In Arizona, the Scottsdale Unified School District No. 48 is planning to begin spending proceeds from its Iargest-ever general obligation bond issue, some $217 million of school construction debt that voters approved in November. The Arkansas Senate last week approved a legislation that would prevent a 3% income tax surcharge on earned income from applying beyond the 2004 tax year. According to a study of Denver, Colorado, incarceration rates released last week, the Denver Jail System has experienced a 33% decrease in booking from 1997 to last year.
