The article reports that one furniture company stood out for its impact on the retail sector in 2004--SB Capital Europe. The company began the year completing the acquisition of Furnitureland for about 3-4 million pound, beating off the attempted MBO by ChrisPeddar. It finished the year by taking over the 88 Courts UK stores while it winds the chain down and absorbs 14 branches into Furnitureland. As SB is backed by the financial US investment group Schottenstein Corp. which owns 335 million pound of assets and billionaire George Soros's Soros Real Estate Investors, the approach will continue this year as more opportunities arise.
