The article reports that furniture retailers completed a year of solid growth last month with the 12th consecutive month of year on year sales growth. A balance of 43% of furniture and floorcoverings retailers increased sales volumes in the first half of December 2004, according to the "CBI Distributive Trades Survey." The situation was also positive for overall retail sales, with a balance of 33% of stores reporting an annual increase. But this was at the expense of margin, as retailers cut prices to drive sales. Sales were described as average for the time of year.
