Colby Leaves Hancock to Manage New High-Yield Lord Abbett Fund

This article reports that James T. Colby left John Hancock Advisers LLC last week, a year and a half after being hired to head the firm's municipal department, and has accepted an offer from Lord Abbett & Co. to manage a new high-yield muni bond mutual fund. At Lord Abbett, Colby will report to Rick Smola, who heads the Jersey City firm's muni bond department. Lord Abbett manages approximately $5 billion in muni bonds through mutual funds and separately managed accounts. Barry H. Evans, chief fixed-income officer at John Hancock, will assume Colby's portfolio management duties for the firm's five municipal bond mutual funds.
