The article stresses that the contentious battle between Oracle and PeopleSoft was always more about money than customers. When PeopleSoft agreed December 13, 2004 to a $10.3 billion, $26.50 open-share merger with Oracle, questions quickiy emerged about how the company would operate postmerger, as well as how Oracle would put customers at ease after a grueling 18-month battle in which the two companies traded nasty remarks. Oracle president Charles Phillips told journalists in a post-merger conference call that financial services was one of the selected verticals the company had targeted as a factor in pursuing PeopleSoft. The financial services sector appears to be staying mum about the prospects of a new Oracle-PeopleSoft company
