The article reports that the discipline required to prepare a detailed business plan forces management to focus on where the company is headed. According to the author management issues must be addressed well in advance of an initial public offering in order to allow time for the hiring and seasoning of needed additions to the management team. Critical to the hiring decision is an assessment of the individual's ability to help grow the company profitably. When making senior hiring decisions, it is important to keep in mind the candidates' presentations skills.
