ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the growth in the revenue and sales of wireless-fidelity (Wi-Fi) hardware. Worldwide revenues for Wi- Fi hardware grew 9 percent for the third quarter of 2004 over the previous quarter, with unit sales rising 31 percent in the same period. A study by Infonetics Research Inc. projects that revenues will exceed $3.7 billion in 2007 nearly 50 percent higher than 2003. Richard Webb, directing analyst at Infonetics said that Wi-Fi switch revenue and ports grew phenomenally in the third quarter. The consumer, enterprise, and public Wi-Fi hotspot segments together will drive overall growth in wireless local area network hardware over the coming five-year period, especially the consumer segment, which is on fire. The study also reveals that Cisco Systems Inc. remained the market leader with 16 percent share of the worldwide hardware revenue.
