ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the study by Gartner Group Inc., which shows that Microsoft Corp.'s CE operating system (OS) for Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) has surpassed the Palm OS, by PalmOne Inc. in the third quarter of 2004. Todd Kort, the principal analyst at Gartner said, that decline in Palm OS shipments was expected though not on this magnitude. The reason he cited was that the company is pouring the vast majority of its resources into its smart-phone business. A reduction in the number of PDA models PalmOne offers is expected in 2005. Meanwhile, the robust Microsoft Windows CE market has been driven in part by the wide choice of vendors. The main driver for PDA growth is wireless e-mail, Gartner said.
