ABSTRACT
The article reports that Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), an information technology strategy for managing products and design data from conception to end of life, seems to be polarizing the manufacturing sector into "haves" and "have nots." Companies that first embraced PLM tended to be those engaged in wider production processes, which needed to share data within and across enterprises. While there is still a distinction between those that adopt either the process or design approach, today even small companies are accepting the PLM concept.
