ABSTRACT
This article presents updates on the Institute of Management Services in Great Britain, as of December 2004. The Institute's Council of Management devised an action plan that would restructure the Institute and so ensure its future long-term viability. Central to the plan was that the Institute should adopt a modern approach to its mode of operation but at the same time retain the old values of service to the membership. The membership voted by the necessary majorities to amend the Institute's Articles of Association and in so doing created Life Membership as part of the membership subscription structure. This is indeed a radical move as no other professional body has a structure that ensures that the vast majority of their membership can enjoy the benefits of Life Membership for such a low payment. Basically those paying by cheque are urged to pay in one payment and in so doing keep the administration costs to the minimum. Those wishing to pay by cheque in two instalments need to submit two cheques at the same time one dated with the current date and the second dated no later than 1st September 2005. This process will avoid the need to send reminders for the second payment. Those members paying by credit card or direct debit must pay in one instalment as the cost to the Institute of such methods of payment are high.
