ABSTRACT
This article reports on a new range of inkjet printers---plus copying, faxing and scanning--for individuals or small workgroups, launched by Brother as of December 2004. The inkjet printers have a good 20 pages per minute (ppm) mono and 15ppm color top speed and print resolution of 6000x1200dpi. All machines are Apple Mac compatible. The company also claims some of the lowest running costs on the market. For example it has introduced a high yield black cartridge to produce a better cost per page. Ink cartridges are replaced separately as each color runs out. Over half of the new inkjet products support Brother's PhotoCapture Center. This enables users to slot a memory card directly into the machine and print out images as well as index sheets with thumbnail size images for selection. All of the most popular media cards are compatible, including Smart Media, Compact Flash, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Secure Digital and xD Picture Card. Image printing is helped by true Borderless Printing--images printed to the very edge of the paper. These new models come at a time when Brother has improved its ink formulae. The black ink in Brother's new range has been changed from dye ink to pigment ink, meaning better quality images which are waterproof, and less susceptible to fading in the light.
