ABSTRACT
This article focuses on travel industry. Some say politicians should keep their noses firmly out of the travel industry. Plenty of evidence supports this view: from the loss-making airlines still propped up by governments around the world, to the debacle of the Millennium Dome. But there is evidence to the contrary, too, Emirates and Singapore Airlines don't do badly as government enterprises. France's nationalised railway knocks the spots off our muddled private train operators. A relatively minor amendment that prevented parents adding any more children to their passports was somehow miscommunicated by government as a more drastic step, the message the public, and the trade, picked up was that all children needed their own passports.
