This article focuses on the financial performance of the Pantry Inc. and Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. The Pantry Inc., which is based in Sanford, North Carolina, and operates 1,361 convenience stores c-stores under the Kangaroo Express, The Pantry, Golden Gallon and Lil Champ Food Store brands, announced total revenues for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2004 were$ 1.03 billion, a 40.9 percent increase from$ 733.8 million in last year's fourth quarter. Net income more than doubled to$ 13.0 million from$ 6.3 million a year ago. Boosted by its U.S. acquisitions, including 1,663 Circle K corporate stores and 350 franchise outlets, laval, Quebec-based Alimentation Couche-Tard Inc. also reported huge quarterly earnings. Revenues more than doubled to$ 2.4 billion, from$ 937.5 million,. Less fortunate was Casey's General Stores Inc., which operates more than 1,300 stores in nine midwestern states, whose profit dropped 30 percent in the fiscal second quarter as rising gasoline costs continued to cut into higher revenue.
