ABSTRACT
This article explains how an immigrant can become a United States citizen. When a foreign-born person becomes a citizen of the United States, we say the person has become naturalized. To apply for American citizenship, a person: Must be at least 18 years old. Must have lived legally in the United States for at least five years. Must be able to understand English if under the age of 55. Must be of good moral character. Must show knowledge of the history and form of government of the United States.
