The article reports that fifty-eight days after the election, Washington's Secretary of State Sam Reed certified on Thursday the results of an unprecedented third vote count that declared Democrat Christine Gregoire the victor over her Republican gubernatorial opponent by 129 votes. Local press reported that her challenger, Dino Rossi, did not immediately concede and instead publicly called for a new election, characterizing the initial machine recount and following manual recount "a total mess." Rossi's election team was requesting information from ail 39 counties before deciding to move forward with any legal challenges.
