ABSTRACT
The article presents an evaluation of the dictionary of critical terms titled "Yoruba Metalanguage: Èdè Ìperí Yorùbá," compiled by the Egbé Onimò Edè Yorùbá (Yoruba Studies Association of Nigeria), for academic and public discussions of Yoruba language and literature. The Association has clearly demonstrated that, given adequate support African-language studies can prosper. In particular, the publication of "Yoruba Metalanguage" establishes the feasibility of high discourse in African languages. It also launches a long overdue critical complement to the inventive genius of African-language writers.
