The article highlights that while lighting technology has become progressively more sophisticated, innovation in lighting fixtures for display cabinets has been slower. The reasons are mixed. Some manufacturers say offering something bolder than downlighting would substantially increase the price. Others claim the advent of modern open cabinets has reduced the demand. While others say retailers do not demand innovative lighting fixtures. Whatever the reason, the industry has moved away from neon screw-in bulbs to low voltage halogen lights as the standard with their longer lifespan and energy efficiency.
