ABSTRACT
The article focuses on the difficulties of designing a system-on-a-chip (SoC) and the solution provided by the tool SonicsMX to overcome these difficulties. SoCs are expensive and take a long time to design. Among the several difficulties faced by designers are the power management and multimedia data flow. But the tools that help designers get to that Holy Grail, the complete SoC, are definitely getting better. One such tool is the SonicsMX solution, developed by Sonics Inc. SonicsMX is aimed squarely at designers of SoCs that eventually find homes in multimedia-rich wireless and handheld products. SonicsMX provides the physical structures, advanced protocols and extensive power management capabilities needed to overcome data flow and other design challenges associated with the convergence of SoC-based multimedia and communications. SonicsMX addresses the rising data flow design and verification challenges associated with the continuing convergence of complex multimedia and communications content.
