ABSTRACT
The article presents information on the Bluetooth technology. Bluetooth for some reason it wasn't showing up in CDMA cell phones. It was somewhat odd because the same manufacturers were producing Bluetooth-enabled GSM phones. The trend is starting to change. The real avalanche will start when mainstream automobiles become equipped with Bluetooth. Being able to make and receive calls without ever having to take the phone out of your pocket is an exciting possibility. The Bluetooth Special Interest Group Inc. (SIG), the governing body that approves the specification, now claims to have more than 3000 members worldwide. The current count says that over three million Bluetooth-enabled products are shipping per week, mostly mobile phones. Bluetooth specification, version 1.2, offers a practical throughput of about 700 kbits/s. A major revision underway in the Bluetooth SIG is to bump the data rate up to a theoretical mostly battery-powered devices. In a home security scenario, at least two to three years of battery life are needed on the sensor.
