ABSTRACT
The article discusses on how portable-powered devices have brought new dimensions to old traditions. The paper talks about the new camping experience. The camp was about 10 miles from "the middle of nowhere." About 60 dads and nearly 100 kids arrived in small groups, all eager to participate in camp activities. The kids went swimming and sliding down water slides until late in the evening. Then it was time for sleep, actually it was well past time to sleep, because the dads wanted to make sure the kids were tired. The kids were assigned their cabins. As the evening wore on, batteries that powered MP3 players, Game Boys, flashlights and boom boxes began to discharge. Eventually, the kids became quiet. And with a limited amount of snoring, so did the dads. The next day, it was obvious by the lack of attendees at breakfast that some of the campers valued sleep more than sustenance. Everyone enjoyed a full day and was looking forward to a fun-filled night. The dads had set high expectations with the campers for the evening's bonfire. After the dust settled, it was time to roast marshmallows.
