ABSTRACT
The article reports on municipal bond market. The municipal bond market finished the week on a softer note amid sluggish activity as trading began to wind down ahead of two abbreviated holiday weeks. Government bonds pared some of their losses before the end of the session but stayed in negative territory, contributing to a gloomy mood in the tax-exempt market, where participants had a hard time finding buyers. A few trades on the long end indicated that yields were two to three basis points higher than Thursday. While the bid side lacked depth, traders said some participants had more bonds on their shelves than they would have liked due to unsold balances on a few deals sold last week. Traders said the general feeling was that most participants just wanted to get through the day and wrap up a volatile week. The market eased despite the latest consumer price index (CPI) report, which came in line with expectations. Both the headline and core CPI, which excludes the volatile food and energy sectors, rose 0.2% in November.
