ABSTRACT
This article presents the author's experience within the aerospace industry of Great Britain. He said that one has only to look at the state of the Eurofighter, to realize that because it is built by a consortium, and run by a committee like other big aerospace and defense projects in Great Britain that it was always doomed to be way over budget and, significantly, late. It has been 20 years in the making, and by the time it is in full service it will be outdated, by UCAVs and the JSF. It seems that any programme the government instigates is late and over budget. If the British Minister of Defense put out a tender for design and development and left manufacturers alone to get on with the job instead of meddling, projects like the Eurofighter and the Bowman radio would probably have been on time and closer to budget.
