ABSTRACT
This article discusses various issues related to the new product introduced in the market by 3Com Corp. 3Com recently debuted its 3Com Convergence Applications Suite, with a focus on Session Initiation Protocol (SIP), conferencing, messaging and contact center capabilities, and a converged client that supports these applications as well as a presence capability to tie them all together. According to Peter Brockmann, vice president of marketing, enterprise voice solutions at 3Com, there are things one can do with IP telephony and with a convergence network that one can't do with a digital infrastructure. And that's what this Convergence Applications is all about. 3Com wants to position itself very aggressively in terms of fulfilling that enterprise need for things that they can do, not only with their IP telephony system, but their investment in a converged network. A major emphasis in the latest 3Com release is SIP compliance. As 3Com delineates it, the company's IP-telephony module is just one element of this suite.
