ABSTRACT
The article addresses the question how noninvasive positive-pressure ventilation (NIPPY) compares with standard medical therapy for mortality in patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) with respiratory failure within 48 hours after extubation. The article adds that in patients in the intensive care unit who developed respiratory failure within 48 hours of extubation, noninvasive positive-pressure ventilation delayed the time to reintubation and increased all-cause mortality compared with standard medical therapy.
