This article reports that the Grand Island City Council, Nebraska was expected to approve the appointments of five of the city's residents to serve on the newly established Grand Island Facilities Corp., which will have the ability to approve bond issues for city projects. The corporation would have the ability to enter into lease-backed transactions for nonprofit organizations in the city and to use revenues from a sales tax to repay debt. Grand Island plans to issue $7 million of bonds to expand its library, $8 million for a public safety center and, bonds for a new fire station and training facility, according to local news reports.
