The article presents an interview of Floris van den Broecke, director of design at Ercol Furniture. She discusses about her entry in the industry. Her first job was designing bookcases and chairs for a Dutch commercial lawyer who chaired the benevolent society funding her scholarship. She did all sorts of things to support herself as a freelancer. According to her she dislikes the modular approach in current design college courses. The great thing about some colleges is that they focus designers on one thing. They can concentrate and really specialise. To make nice furniture is the one thing that motivates her.
