Human Genome Sciences Inc. has appointed Thomas Watkins as CEO, succeeding founder William Haseltine, who retired last month. Watkins, who is 51, was recently president of TAP Pharmaceutical Products for six years and spent nearly 20 years with Abbott Laboratories, which jointly owns TAP with Takeda Pharmaceutical. Select Medical bought acute care hospital operator SemperCare of Plano, Texas, for $100 million in cash to complement its own specialty hospital focus.
